Early Childhood Development Association of Washington (ECDAW)

Founded in 1980, ECDAW promotes the highest standard in practice, technical competence and leadership in the field of early intervention. The purpose of the organization is to provide communication, education and dissemination of information concerning early childhood development and to provide support for existing early childhood programs and foster development of new programs. The emphasis is on promoting quality programs and services for children who have developmental disabilities.

A member is an organization or agency providing early childhood intervention programs to children with developmental disabilities, which pays annual dues. The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors may approve other agencies or individuals with interest in early childhood services for membership. There is one vote per member agency.

The Goals of ECDAW

  • To advocate for public policy that supports comprehensive, quality services for young children with developmental needs and their families
  • To coordinate with other organizations that are also working to enhance the lives of people with disabilities and their families
  • To promote the professional development of ECDAW members

The Guiding Principles of ECDAW

Infants and toddlers with disabilities deserve the best start. Optimal growth and development depend on early childhood education and support for families.

In order to more effectively deliver services to infants and toddlers and their families, we propose a system which has a simple structure, simple rules and simple funding.

The Early Childhood Development Association of Washington:
  • Promotes the highest standard in practice, technical competence and leadership in the field of early intervention.

  • Seeks an integrated system of funding, reporting and monitoring of services for infants and toddlers with disabilities.

  • Promotes the elimination of unnecessary, duplicative administrative procedures which do not directly enhance services to infants, toddlers and their families.

  • Encourages a system which maintains the integrity of private funding streams which include medical reimbursement, United Way and private contributions.
